WASHINGTON DC USA -- HEALTHCARE UPDATE NEWS SERVICETM -- JANUARY 6, 2005: Train for Emergency Management, www.TrainforEmergencyManagement.com, announced today announced the availability of a special discounted 8-course JCAHO emergency management standards and a basic incident command, crisis communication and simulation/drill program curriculum.
JCAHO EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT STANDARDS TRAINING:
The JCAHO standards that mandate emergency management training are EC 1.4 and EC 2.9.1 (click here to view). Specifically, EC 1.4 requires:
An orientation and education program for all personnel, including licensed independent practitioners, who participate in implementing the emergency management plan. Education addresses, as appropriate to the individual:
- specific roles and responsibilities during emergencies.
- how to recognize specific types of emergencies (for example, the symptoms caused by agents that may be used in chemical or bioterrorist attacks).
- the information and skills required to perform assigned duties during emergencies.
- the backup communication system used during emergencies.
- how supplies and equipment are obtained during emergencies.
JCAHO President Dennis S. O'Leary, M.D. testified before the U.S. Congress that "Medical care workers must be trained to become familiar with pathogens that may be used in bioterrorism, aware of the symptoms they produce, knowledgeable about their routes of transmission, and alert to the possibility of their use." In addition, Dr. O'Leary stated that "health care organizations must develop a chain of command approach that is common to all hazards which are determined to be credible threats to the community".
